Man Had $23K Worth Of Stolen Louis Vuitton Purses In Home: Cops

Western Springs PD close ID theft case after $23,000 worth of Louis Vuitton bags were found in a Chicago man's home, prosecutors said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL -- A Chicago man under investigation for identity theft was arrested after police found thousands of dollars worth of Louis Vuitton products in his home, prosecutors said. Billy Munedane, 26, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on felony charges of theft and financial identity theft.

Munedane was under investigation for 17 months after a resident complained of fraudulent credit card charges. On May 22, Chicago police went to Munedane’s home in the 4800 block of West Strong Street. In plain view were 19 Louis Vuitton purses and backpacks valued at $23,000, the prosecutor said. Police also claimed to have found 14 credit cards belonging to other people.

Western Springs police were able to close their identity theft case as a result of Munedane’s arrest. Police said Munedane was cooperating in their investigation.

Munedane was placed on supervision in 2018 for receipt of stolen goods and has an unrelated pending case in Lake County, according to court records.

Bail was set at $25,000. Munedane is due back in court June 20 in Bridgeview.
