One Killed In I-294 Crash Involving Snow Plow: Cops

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A 19-year-old from Bellwood was killed in a crash between a car and a snow plow at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 on I-294 near Western Springs. Illinois State Police said an Illinois Tollway snow plow was stopped in the lane of traffic with its emergency lights on and was helping with traffic control from a previous crash.

The driver of a Chevy Malibu lost control and struck the rear of the snow plow. The back seat passenger, Maurice Chears, was pronounced deceased on scene, police said. The front seat passenger of the Chevy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the Chevy did not sustain injuries. The driver of the snow plow was also not injured.

Police said the crash is currently being investigated.
