15-Year-Old Boy Struck, Killed By Train In Western Springs: Cops

The incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. Monday on the BNSF line.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A 15-year-old was struck and killed by a freight train in Western Springs on Monday night, police said. Western Springs Police responded at 7:46 p.m. to the BNSF tracks west of the Central Avenue pedestrian crossing for a report of an individual struck by a train.

When officers arrived on scene they found an unresponsive male about 300 feet west of the pedestrian crossing. Police said preliminary investigation suggests the teen ran into the path of the moving freight train.

The victim was identified as a 15-year-old from Western Springs.

Western Springs Fire Department responded and took the victim to La Grange Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased at 8:37 p.m. Police said the investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
