Police Clear LTHS After Report of Suspicious Person With Gun

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL -- Western Springs police searched Lyons Township High School’s south campus in Western Springs after someone reported a man entering the high school who was possibly concealing a gun.

Around 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Western Springs police along with other regional police agencies responded to Lyons Township High School at 4900 S. Willow Springs Road, Western Springs, after receiving a call of a man entering the school through the pool lobby who was possibly concealing a gun in his pants pocket.

LT security searched the school and called Western Springs police for help in finding the individual. As a precaution, police evacuated the south campus building where there were several school events taking place Saturday afternoon.

The suspicious subject was described as a white male in his 40s with an average building, who was wearing a baseball cap, dark sweatshirt and tan pants. The witness said the man had a noticeable bulge in his pants, Western Springs police said in a news release.

Police immediately ordered the school to be evacuated and secured the area around the high school Police thoroughly searched the building but no suspicious individuals or weapons were found.

Around 3:55 p.m., Western Springs police declared the entire building and surrounding area to be sae. Police said at this time, there is no credible evidence to back up the report, but an investigation remains ongoing.

At approximately 12:30pm this afternoon (10/15/2016), an individual entering South Campus at the pool lobby, reported seeing someone whom he thought may have been hiding a weapon inside his pants pocket. Immediately, LT security personnel simultaneously attempted to find the individual and contacted the Western Springs Police Department. The officers first on the scene decided to evacuate the campus in an attempt to secure the location and ensure the safety of all on site. Neither school personnel nor law enforcement have been able to verify the threat as credible. The safety and security of all is paramount. We will report any updates as information becomes available.
