Registration Open for Fifth and Sixth Grade Recreation Basketball League

Children in Western Springs can register for the Recreation Department’s fifth and sixth grade basketball league.

Teams of girls and boys are formed around schools, according to a Western Springs news flash. There are no cuts, and all children who register will be assigned a team.

“The program will improve basketball skills, develop friendships, emphasis sportsmanship, and positively impact the child’s physical stamina,” the news flash states.

Games will begin Dec. 6 and take place Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., either at the Recreation Center or McClure Jr. High. The league ends with a tournament in March, according to the news flash.

Registration is due Nov. 5 and the fee is $130. Non-Western Springs children who would like to register must go to school in District 101, 106 or at St. John of the Cross.

Required pre-registration can be completed at the Recreation Offices (1500 Walker Street) or by mail or fax.

The league is looking for volunteer coaches. A Coaches Organizational meeting will be held Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Training is provided.
