Ruse Burglary, Arson: Western Springs Police

Person claiming to be a landscaper distracted resident during burglary, report says.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs police have responded to calls about a ruse burglary, an arson and thefts in recent days. Here is information from the reports:

  • Documents, including a Social Security card and birth certificate, were stolen from a house July 22 in the 3800 block of Lawn Avenue while the resident was speaking in the backyard with someone claiming to be from a landscaping company. This is considered a ruse burglary.
  • A resident in the 4400 block of Central Avenue reported hearing a loud bang from the area of a dumpster about 9:30 p.m. July 22. The dumpster was found to be on fire. It was put out by the fire department. The crime was labeled aa burglary.
  • A first responder's flag was reported stolen from a house July 20 in the 4100 block of Rose Avenue.
  • An unlocked bicycle was stolen between noon and 6 p.m. July 21 from the front of a house in the 4000 block of Johnson Avenue.
  • An unlocked car parked in a driveway was burglarized overnight July 21 in the 1300 block of Walnut Street. A wallet, cash, debit cards and a driver's license were stolen.
