WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — On a breezy day, hundreds gathered on the Tower Green on Wednesday for Western Springs' first Black Lives Matter rally. The participants heard a couple of speeches, kneeled for nine minutes and then proceeded to march nearly 1½ miles to Lyons Township High School's South Campus.

Mya Jackson, a recent graduate of Lyons Township, talked about how she had been called the N-word and told to go back to Africa. Grace Regan, the event's lead organizer and an incoming junior at Lyons Township, said as a white person, she would never understand what it's like to live as a person of color, but would do what she could to help.
