Suspicious Man Offers Ride To 3 Girls In Western Springs: Cops
Police are investigating an incident where a man offered a ride to three young girls on Friday at 11:44 a.m.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Police are investigating an incident where a man offered a ride to three young girls on Friday at 11:44 a.m. Western Springs Police said the driver of a white, construction-type van drove up and offered three girls a ride. The man was described as white, middle-aged, black hair with a beard, thick oval glasses, wearing a dark blue or black long-sleeved shirt and having a "deep crackly" voice.
According to police, the reported incident took place at the intersection of Garden Avenue and Maple Street. Police said there was no actual or attempted physical contact made with any of the children and the vehicle left the area heading north.
Several police units checked the area but were unable to locate the suspicious vehicle. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Police will be increasing patrols, focusing on school areas during the drop-off and pick-up hours.

Western Springs Police have shared a few safety tips to discuss with children:
- Children should always obtain parent’s permission before going anywhere.
- Children should never go near someone in a car or truck and should run the other way toward other people if possible.
- Cute animals and candy are just two tricks used by strangers in order to get near a child.
- Children should always obtain parent’s permission before accepting money or a gift.
- Children should be instructed to walk with a group. There is safety in numbers.
Residents are asked to be extra observant and to report any and all suspicious vehicles, individuals, or activity to the Western Springs Police Department by either dialing 911 or 708-246-8540.
