Teen Charged With Reckless Driving After Multi-Car Crash: Cops

The excessive speed of the 2008 BMW, which was driven by Alex Janicki, 19, of La Grange, was a major factor in the crash.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Police have charged a La Grange teen with reckless driving after a multi-car collision in July at 55th Street and Woodland Avenue in Western Springs. Police said investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on 55th near Woodland when the car attempted to turn left and was struck by a 2008 BMW 650I convertible. Two additional vehicles were also impacted by the initial collision.

Police said investigation showed the excessive speed of the 2008 BMW, which was driven by Alex Janicki, 19, of La Grange, was a major factor in the crash.

Western Springs, Hinsdale, La Grange Park and Pleasantview Fire Departments responded to the accident, and one occupant was extricated from the interior of the Toyota Corolla, police said. Four people with serious injuries were also transported to nearby hospitals.

Janicki has now been charged with three counts of aggravated reckless driving. He was taken to the Cook County 5th District Circuit Court on Sept. 13 for a bond hearing, where bond was set at $10,000 D-bond by Judge Felice.
