Town Hall On 5G Set For Western Springs

Village won't say which officials and company representatives have agreed to attend.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs officials plan to hold a town hall Thursday on the issue of 5G antennas, which residents fear would affect their health. The event is set for 7 to 9 p.m. in the Corral at Lyons Township High School's South Campus, 4940 Willow Springs Road.

The meeting will include updates on village action, statements from officials and representatives, and questions from the public.

The village has invited legislators, representatives of local and state health agencies, and representatives of Crown Castle, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and ComEd. A village spokeswoman declined to reveal who had accepted the invitations.

Telecommunications companies such as Verizon have expressed interest in setting up 5G antennas in Western Springs and nearby towns. Residents in Western Springs, La Grange, Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills have expressed concerns about 5G, the latest in wireless technology. Officials in the towns have asked the state and federal governments for more powers in regulating 5G antennas.
