Train Platform Reconstruction Begins In Western Springs

The East Train Platforms, between Wolf Road and Lawn Avenue, in Western Springs will be reconstructed starting June 1.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The East Train Platforms, between Wolf Road and Lawn Avenue, in Western Springs will be reconstructed starting June 1. According to a release from the village, during construction, the platforms will be inaccessible and riders must load and unload from the train west of Lawn Avenue.

According to a release, parking stalls on Hillgrove Avenue and Burlington Avenue adjacent to the platforms may be inaccessible during portions of the construction.

The village said this reconstruction is part of an ongoing downtown revitalization effort, which is designed to enhance the commuter experience. Lower level platforms adjacent to the Burlington Northern tracks on both the north and south sides will be upgraded with a combination of paver bricks and new concrete, improved lighting, plantings and improved seating.

According to a release, the project will be funded with Transportation Equity Act funds. TEA-LU funds are federal dollars that can be used by local government for pedestrian improvement projects. The total cost of the project is split 80/20 between TEA-LU and the municipality.
