Western Springs Hosts 40th Annual Tower Trot

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Runners will have a day to look forward to with two races being held in conjunction on Saturday, May 27 in Western Springs. The 40th annual Tower Trot and the Walk for Ashley will both be held at the Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Ave.

The race is open to all ages and abilities. The race features a 10K, double run (10K and 5K), a fun run, and a 5K. Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation receives 100 percent of the proceeds from sponsors, individual donations and raffles. No portion of the race fee is directed to the charity.

According to a release, race day registration starts at 7 a.m. at the Grand Avenue Community Center. 10K, "The Double" and Fun Run registrations are open until 8 a.m. and 5K registration is open until 9 a.m. Late arrivals on race day will not be eligible for awards.

Online registration is available at www.itsyourrace.com until noon on Friday, May 26. The registration form is also available online and at the Recreation Center.

The Walk for Ashley is held in honor of Ashley Jurjovec, a former math teacher at McClure Junior High, who passed away suddenly in May 2016 from an undetected heart rhythm disease. According to a release, the staff at McClure along with Ashley’s family and friends will be conducting a walk in memory of Ashley and to help raise awareness for her condition. Ashley’s family is working with Lurie's Children's Hospital of Chicago to support research for heart rhythm diseases.

Shirts for the walk can be purchased at https://booster.com/walk-for-ashley-2017 and will be included in your race packet at the Recreation Center.

According to a release, prior to race day, numbers, T-shirts and information can be picked up at the Recreation Center during the following hours: noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25; or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 26. On race day, race packets will only be available at Grand Avenue Community Center. Doors open at 7 am.
