Western Springs May Put Marijuana Question On Ballot

The village is likely to ask residents about whether to allow recreational marijuana stores.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs is expected to place a question on the November ballot asking residents whether the village should permit recreational marijuana stores. The referendum's outcome would not bind the board.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, Michael Jurusik, the village's attorney, advised the inclusion of the marijuana question. The village gets to place up to three advisory referendums on the ballot.

"If we reach back to the fall of 2019, the Village Board, instead of opting in or out of cannabis sales, made a decision to do a temporary moratorium to study whether to have recreational cannabis in the community, and so that question tracks and brings the issue to the forefront. That's what the board decided back then."
