Western Springs Participates In Distracted Driving Awareness
The Western Springs Police Department will participate in the second annual Distracted Driving Week on April 23-27.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The Western Springs Police Department will participate in the second annual Distracted Driving Week education and enforcement campaign on April 23-27. The Western Springs Police Department said it will be increasing public education and enforcement efforts during Distracted Driver Awareness Week.
Chief Brian Budds would like to encourage all drivers to refrain from the use of a mobile communication device while driving. The second annual Illinois Distracted Driving Awareness Week is a coordinated effort between the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, AAA, Illinois State Police, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois High School High School and College Driver Education Association and nearly 300 local law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois to educate motorists about the dangers of driving while distracted and enforcing the laws on Illinois’ roadways.
According to the department, last year’s DDAW efforts resulted in over 18,000 warnings and citations for distracted driving offenses. In addition to traffic enforcement, the Western Springs Police said it will also participate in educational activities in coordination with the IHSCDEA including:

- Teach about the dangers of distracted driving in high school driver’s education classes
- Utilize Safety Serve DDAW lessons in schools
- Work with teens to display distracted driving posts around the community
- Promote distracted driving messages through department’s social media platforms
- Promote safe driving at Lyons Township High School South Campus
