Western Springs' Virus Rate Hike Higher Than State's

Village sees 9 percent jump in coronavirus cases in the last week, figures show.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw a 9 percent hike in coronavirus cases in the last week, which is higher than both the state and national rates of increase. As of Sunday, the local caseload reached 143, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The number of deaths remained at two.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 10.7 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 10 in Darien, 10.9 in La Grange Park, 12.5 in Elmhurst, 12.8 in Clarendon Hills, 14 in DuPage County, 15.5 in Hinsdale, 17.8 in Burr Ridge, 18.6 in suburban Cook County and 21.9 in La Grange.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 206,081, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,744 state residents.

Nationally, 5.3 million people have caught the virus, up 7 percent from the week before. A total of 168,696 people have died from the virus in the United States.
