WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A Western Springs woman was ordered by a local officer earlier this month not to point her cameras at her neighbor's house and take audio recordings, police said.

But she continued to do so anyway, according to a police report obtained through a public records request.

On Aug. 22, a resident in the 4300 block of Central Avenue with ongoing issues with her neighbor called police. She told the officer that two of her neighbor's cameras were facing her house, which made her uncomfortable, according to a police report.

The resident believed the cameras were motion-activated and recorded audio, police said.

An officer told the neighbor, a 49-year-old woman, that she should not point the cameras toward her neighbor's house or take audio, police said. Otherwise, she would receive a local ordinance disorderly conduct citation, the officer told her.

Three days later, the officer was called again about the same problem, police said. The 49-year-old was issued a citation.

In July, a 68-year-old woman in the 5400 block of Woodland Avenue was cited on a charge of disorderly conduct. This was after she pointed cameras at her neighbor's house, police said. An officer reported that when someone shows up at the neighbor's house, one of the cameras announces, "Hi, you are being audio and visually recorded."

Exactly a year earlier, the 68-year-old was charged with trespassing on a neighbor's property numerous times, police said.
