WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – The Wolf Road bike path has been opened, linking Western Springs to the existing seven-mile Bemis Woods bike path, just south of Salt Creek, officials announced Tuesday.

Western Springs secured a federal grant to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists by providing an alternative to the previously uncontrolled crossing at Woodland and Ogden avenues, according to a village news release.

The new crossing at Ogden and Wolf avenues connects directly to the new path.

In the news release, Village President Alice Gallagher noted it is a "much safer crossing for our residents and for the neighboring communities at large."

Construction of the path started in August 2021 by V3 Companies. It included path excavation, grading, storm sewer work, and installation of a sidewalk, a traffic signal and additional paving, the village said.
