Attempted Murder Charge For Driver Shot By Chicago Cop Pinned Against Car

Kayin Wise, 18, faces other felony charges stemming from Wednesday's incident in the Austin neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — An 18-year-old man shot and wounded by the Chicago cop he's accused of driving into and pinning against another car faces multiple felony charges stemming from the incident earlier this week, according to police. Kayin Wise, of the 184900 block of West Concord Place, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery of a peace officer, receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing from police and unlawful use of a loaded weapon. His bail hearing is scheduled for Friday.

The incident happened at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, while tactical officers were on patrol in the 1600 block of North LeClaire Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, police said. The officers approached the car Wise was driving when they suspected the vehicle had been stolen the previous day. That's when Wise allegedly tried to escape down an alley, hitting a fence before crashing into another car, according to police.

When the officers approached the vehicle second time, Wise allegedly tried to flee the scene again, colliding with the same car he had hit earlier, police said. This time, however, one of the officers became pinned against the second car in the alley, according to police. The pinned-in officer then opened fire on the driver, hitting him multiple times, the police's statement said.
