Free Building on Chicago's West Side Listed on Craigslist

The property owner says there's no catch. But the old building does need a lot of work.

Chicago, IL - If you are looking to buy a building on the city’s West Side, you can for free.

A frustrated property owner has listed his building, which has several rooms and a few appliances intact, for free on Craigslist, Curbed Chicago reported Tuesday.

There’s no catch, the owner of the structure at 801 S. Pulaski writes. But it “definitely needs work.”
“This is a good building,” the ad reads. “All the taxes are paid on it. There was a church downstairs in the hall and then a 4 bedroom apt upstairs. It’s a good location near the expressway and the El. If you don’t have money to put into it - this is not for you!”

The address listed in the ad is the previous location of the West Side’s 2nd Chance Social Club.

A search on Google Maps shows at least a portion of the building’s windows are boarded up.

It’s not completely unheard of for a building in bad shape to go for as low as $1 and in some cases have been dealt for nothing. But with the rising rent costs in Chicago and improvements made in several other city neighborhoods, this one could be worth a shot.
