2 Charged With Home Burglary In Wheaton

WHEATON, IL — Two men have been charged with residential burglary in connection with a home burglary that was reported in the 100 block of East Elm Street in Wheaton late Thursday. Daniel J. Duchon, 58, of Lemont, was charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property, and Daniel P. Cape, 29, of Channahon was charged with residential burglary in connection with the incident.

Police say they got a call at approximately 9:15 p.m. to report a home burglary in progress at the above address. Duchon and Cape were taken into custody at the scene.

Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy said in a statement, "I am extremely proud of the men and women involved in this incident. From the immediate response of the patrol officers to apprehend these individuals to the investigative actions that occurred after custody, this is a great example of the commitment and dedication to keeping our residents safe."

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin echoed Murphy's sentiments, saying, "I commend the Wheaton Police Department for their outstanding work on this case. The quick apprehension of these two defendants demonstrates the Department's ongoing commitment to the safety of Wheaton residents."

According to DuPage County Sheriff's Office records, Cape and Duchon were both released from custody early Friday.
