2 Homes Burglarized In Wheaton In 1 Week: Police

Police say several items of jewelry were stolen during one of the burglaries.

WHEATON, IL -- Police in Wheaton are investigating two home burglaries that took place in the city in late February. The first was reported in the 400 block of S. President Street and the second burglary took place in the 1100 block of Oak View Drive, according to a police summary.

On Feb. 26, a resident in the 400 block of S. President called police to report that someone had damaged the lock box to their home. Police say the incident took place sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., but that no one gained entry to the residence.

A resident in the 1100 block of Oak View told police that someone burglarized their home sometime between Feb. 26 and March 2. The victim told police that their residence had been left unlocked when a suspect or suspects got in and stole "numerous items of jewelry."

These residential burglaries come after an ongoing surge in vehicle burglaries throughout the county. The DuPage County Sheriff's Office recently reminded residents to keep their cars locked at all times to help deter burglars.
