3 Identity Thefts In 3 Days In Wheaton: Police

Three residents were victims of identity theft in a three-day period, Wheaton police say.

WHEATON, IL — Three Wheaton residents were the victims of identity theft in a three-day period, according to Wheaton Police. The incidents took place between Nov. 20 and Nov. 22 and involved stolen information and deception used to open credit cards or use existing accounts.

Police say the first incident took place on Nov. 20 at approximately 2 p.m. A resident in the 300 block of E. Liberty Dr. reported that someone had opened a credit card in their name and filed a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service.

Later that day, a resident in the 600 block of N. Carlton Ave. told police that they got a phone call from a suspect who informed them their computer's security had been compromised. The victim granted remote access to the caller, who reportedly "found significant issues" with the computer and would need to charge the victim for services via a credit card and checking account.

On Nov. 22, a victim told police that an unknown person used their information to open a credit card and "several phone lines." The incident was reported in the 1800 block of Schillerstrom Ct.
