$4 Million Bond Set for Addison Man Accused of Double Murder
Jorge Vargas, 20, of Addison faces natural life in prison he is convicted in the fatal shooting of Alberto Rios, 20, and Kevin Bustos, 17.

ADDISON, IL — Bond has been set at $4 million for an Addison man charged with killing two men Saturday as they were driving near Elizabeth and Denise Avenues. Jorge Vargas, 20, of 537 Valerie Lane has been charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder in the fatal shooting of Alberto Rios, 20, of Villa Park, and Kevin Bustos, 17, of Addison.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 1:30 p.m. on May 6 to find Rios and Bustos unresponsive after their car had crashed into a tree. Both men were pronounced dead after being taken to local hospitals. Police say the vehicle was allegedly parked outside of an apartment building where Vargas was located and where he allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, striking both men. Bustos reportedly attempted to drive away before crashing into a tree at the southwest corner of Denise and Elizabeth Avenues, according to police.
After a thorough investigation that involved eyewitness accounts and reviews of surveillance cameras, authorities tracked down Vargas near St. Louis, in Fairmount, Illinois. Officers took Vargas into custody and transported him to DuPage County Jail Sunday evening.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said,
“The allegations against Mr. Vargas, that he opened fire in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in a residential area, killing two individuals, are completely outrageous and will be met with the full force of the law.” Berlin added, “While nothing can be done to bring Alberto and Kevin back to those who loved them, the outstanding work of the Addison Police Department will allow us to bring a strong prosecution against the man who allegedly took their lives. I would like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Knight for his tireless efforts these past few days.”
“The quick and successful apprehension of this suspect is a direct result of the excellent and hard work put in by the first responding officers from the Addison Police Department as well as the Investigations Division and Evidence Technicians of the Addison Police Department,” Director Hayden said. “The Addison Police would like to thank the many agencies that assisted in this investigation, the Elmhurst Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Fairmont Police Department and the DuPage County State's Attorney’s Office.”
