4 Residents Targeted In Identity, Financial Theft Scams In Wheaton

Most of the incidents were reported between March 21 and March 27, according to police.

WHEATON, IL — Four residents were targeted by scams that involved theft of funds or personal information last month in Wheaton.

The first incident was reported March 3 by a resident who lives in the 1100 block of Manchester Rd. The resident told police someone changed their direct deposit information to reroute their check to a different bank account.

On March 21, a resident in the 800 block of Farnham Lane reported that someone called them purporting to be an immigration lawyer. The caller convinced the victim to send funds under the guise of renewing a work permit.

Another fraud incident took place on March 25. A resident in the 500 block of Evergreen Street told police their personal information was used to open a fraudulent Comcast account.

On March 27, a resident in the 1500 block of Castlewood Drive got a phone call that said they had missed jury duty. The scammer convinced the victim to send funds.
