After an investigation, police say they learned that Leslie Hernandez and Tyler Goorley were home at their apartment when Soto, Hernandez's mother, and Franco, Hernandez's brother, came to the home and had a conversation outside the apartment with Hernandez.

Nova, Hernandez's sister, along with Dantzler and Pozuelos, arrived at the apartment a short time later, police say. According to police, the conversation escalated and Nova pushed her way into the apartment, followed by Dantzler and Pozuelos.

Pozuelos and Dantzler are accused of hitting and kicking Goorley as the argument continued. Police say Soto, Franco and four juveniles entered the apartment. Goorley is said to have grabbed a knife off the kitchen counter and begun swinging it in self-defense.

Goorley called 911 and was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released. Pozuelos and the four juveniles were taken to a local hospital, treated and released as well.

“I would like to thank the Carol Stream Police Department for their work in quickly responding to a situation that could have gotten out of hand very easily,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
