Accused Prairie Path Attacker Denied Lower Bond by Judge

Accused Prairie Path attacker Matthew Grover, 31, of Winfield, was denied lower bond after prosecutors said he would live too close to path.

WHEATON, IL — A DuPage County judge denied a request to lower bond for a former gymnastics coach accused of grabbing a woman on Prairie Path in April. Matthew Grover, 31, of the 26W600 block of Lindsey Avenue in Winfield, is also the suspect of another attack on a female last year.

During the hearing on Friday, a DuPage county prosecutor emphasized that Grover would live in close proximity to Prairie Path if he were released on bond, Chicago Tribune reported. Grover’s attorney, John Houlihan’s request was that Grover’s bond be lowered from $200,000 to $50,000. That would have required Grover to pay only $5,000 cash to be let out on bond.

Judge Telander’s ruling was spurred on by the prosecution’s continuing warnings about how close Grover would be living to the trail where he allegedly grabbed a woman from behind and is suspected of other incidents. Assistant State’s Attorney Shanti Kulkarni said that would make Prairie Path a “no-go zone for women.”
