Air Conditioning Sets House On Fire In Wheaton

Fire officials believe an air conditioning system is to blame for a blaze that left a Wheaton home uninhabitable on Father's Day.

WHEATON, IL — A Wheaton family has been displaced from their home after a fire broke out in the residence on Father's Day. Fire officials responded to an emergency call at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the 2000 block of Canterbury Place to find that the blaze had extended to the home's attic.

Fire crews from neighboring communities arrived on the scene to help the Wheaton Fire Department contain the fire within minutes, but the home's interior sustained smoke and water damage. According to Fire Chief Bill Schultz, there were no injuries.

After a thorough investigation, officials determined that the fire was accidental. They believe it was caused by an electrical issue with the home's central air conditioning unit. No estimate on damage is available at this time, but the City of Wheaton Building Department deemed the home uninhabitable.
