Stuffed Animal Checkups, Safety Demos Planned At Wheaton Fire Department Open House (patch.com) — Families in Wheaton can tour Fire Station 38 on Sept. 26, watching live safety demonstrations like a vehicle extrication and exploring fire trucks and equipment. Kids are invited to bring stuffed animals for EMT-led checkups and meet Sparky the Firedog, making the open house a hands-on way to learn about local fire and medical services.

Local Event: Meet the Candidates: DuPage County Open House & Candidate Forums on 9/9 (patch.com) — Wheaton residents can meet DuPage County candidates in person on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the DuPage County Administration Building on County Farm Road. The free, nonpartisan event runs 5:30–8:30 p.m. with an open-house candidate fair and three moderated County Board forums. Spanish interpretation will be available for the forums, and residents can submit questions in advance by email.

Dance Team Steps Into a New Season (thewheatonrecord.com) — Wheaton College's growing dance team is stepping into its second full season alongside the long-standing cheer squad, bringing more energy to Thunder football and basketball games. Founded by two roommates in 2025, the team has expanded to nine members and now works with a professional choreographer. Leaders say they're focused on sharper routines, better organization, and boosting school spirit together with cheer.
   

5. Wheaton resident Bette Klein resident receives Marklund Volunteer of the Year (shawlocal.com) — A Wheaton resident, Bette Klein, has been named Marklund's 2025 Volunteer of the Year for her steady support of residents with developmental disabilities. She's become a familiar face at baseball games, outings, dances, and Summer Games in Geneva and Elgin. Klein now also serves as a Volunteer Ambassador, helping recruit others to contribute to more than 15,000 annual volunteer hours.
