📰 News we're reading

1. Part Of Willow Avenue To Be Vacated Permanently In Wheaton (patch.com) — Drivers in Wheaton should prepare for a permanent change on Willow Avenue, where a stretch between Willow Avenue and West Street is closing after water and sewer upgrades run through early July. The right-of-way vacation, requested by St. Michael’s Church and approved in 2025, will help create a unified church and school campus and streamline on-site traffic flow.

2. Family affair vibes as Wheaton North outlasts Wheaton-Warrenville South to win sectional title (shawlocal.com) — Wheaton North’s boys volleyball team just punched its first state ticket since 2000, edging rival Wheaton-Warrenville South in a three-set sectional thriller at Larkin High School. The Falcons, riding a 14-match win streak and a strong family volleyball legacy, now head to Bolingbrook on Friday to face Libertyville in the state quarterfinals.

3. Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra names Benjamin Klemme as music director (shawlocal.com) — A Wheaton College faculty member is taking on a prominent new role in Illinois’ arts scene, as Benjamin Klemme becomes music director of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra. Klemme, who succeeds fellow Wheaton conductor Daniel Sommerville, plans to deepen the orchestra’s community connections while shaping upcoming seasons that will be announced soon.

4. Robert R. McCormick Foundation (insidephilanthropy.com) — Cantigny Park in suburban Wheaton gets ongoing support from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, which maintains its museums, gardens, parks, and golf course as a public asset. The article explains how this major Chicago-based foundation funds community development, journalism, early childhood education, and veterans programs across Chicago and Illinois, while continuing to invest in Cantigny’s long-term operations.
