The Wheaton North High School Marching Falcons placed first in its division at the Naperville Central Classic at Benedictine University in Lisle on Saturday, October 6. Also in its division, WNHS won first place for outstanding percussion, first place for visual general effect, first place for music general effect, and first place for outstanding drum majors. The school’s three drum majors are seniors Elizabeth Kapitaniuk and Brad Weeder and junior Rebekah Slinger.
WNHS was one of twenty bands competing at the festival. Each band was judged on music performance, visual performance, general effect, and percussion.
The Falcon Marching Band features 47 musicians and nine color guard members. For its 2012 competitive season, the band is presenting a show titled “Antithesis: A Tension of Opposing Forces,” which features three distinct movements. The show features music composed by Ian Grom and John Mapes.

The Falcon Marching Band is scheduled to compete next in the Marching Mustang Music Bowl at Downers Grove South High School on Saturday, October 13, and then at the 46th Annual Illinois State University Marching Band Competition at Hancock Stadium in Normal, IL on October 27.
The band is directed by Jon Noworyta. Falcon Marching Band Staff includes assistants Dan Romano, Chuck Cummings, Kurt Makaryk, Jeff Novak, Phil Carter, Anders Hagen, Mike Greco, Genaro Cantu, and Kristin Spathis.

The director of the Wheaton North Band program is Mr. Jon Noworyta. The Wheaton North High School band program includes three curricular bands, the marching band, the jazz band and the jazz ensemble.
