-Lockport Gallery Seven in Lockport opened its exhibit Art of Illinois: A Bicentennial Celebrationto a “bursting at the seams” crowd on Saturday, October 6th. Over 60 artists from around the state are part of this exciting exhibit, which is on both the second and third floors of the Gaylord Building.
Presenting the awards and a certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Senate was Senator Pat McGuire. Diana Mitchell from Wheaton is exhibiting her work Small Town Midwest.
“My preferred medium is soft pastel, My subjects vary but are primarily landscapes, often the fields and forests in rural areas. The disappearing barns of the Midwest become the focal point of many of my paintings.

Born and raised in a small town in Illinois, I love traveling back roads and looking at other small towns… their historic buildings, school houses, churches, old store fronts. This antiquated filling station in Iowa stirred my memories so I stopped to photograph it.
It was a Sunday in October. The day was fairly warm, and the sun was bright. Of course the old filling station was closed on a Sunday, and the townspeople were home enjoying their Sunday dinners and maybe watching a football game. There was a sense of innocence and nostalgia… “a slice of life,” if you will.”

Gallery Seven is managed by a group of local artists, located at 200 West 8th Street, Lockport. This free gallery is open to the public Noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, and Noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. All exhibited work at Gallery Seven is for sale.
