Assault Charges Filed After Man Claims To Be Ex-FBI Agent In Wheaton: Police
Police say someone who falsely claimed to be a retired federal agent demanded to see another individual's green card.

WHEATON, IL — An individual has been charged with assault and disorderly conduct after an Aug. 1 incident in Wheaton.
Police were called to the 1900 block of Gladstone Dr. around 2 p.m. for a report of a conflict between two people, both of whom had contacted 911. When officers got to the scene, they found that the pair, who had been separated, did not report injuries or physical contact.
One of the people involved told police they had been assaulted and shared what they claimed was video footage of the incident.

According to police, the suspect told the person they were retired from the FBI and then demanded the person show their green card. Police say the two people did not have physical conflict after the end of the cellphone video.
The suspect also told police they had been assaulted by the other party before the cellphone footage was taken.

After police tried to mediate the conflict, both parties expressed they were unsatisfied, a news release said.
Around 4:20 p.m., the person who filmed the video visited the Wheaton Police Department to again pursue charges against the person who claimed to be from the FBI.
Police worked to augment the investigation with additional video footage and comments from potential witnesses. They also enlisted the help of the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office to determine assault charges were warranted.
Charges of disorderly conduct and assault were determined to be in order, police say.
Wheaton police released a statement Monday addressing video of the incident that had been circulating on social media.
They wrote, in part, "The video in question was edited and reposted by a third party with commentary that does not accurately reflect the reported incident or the police department’s response to the incident. We could not comment about the video or the incident due to the active investigation."
Police added, "The Wheaton Police Department sympathizes with the victim for enduring the suspect’s hurtful and disrespectful comments. There is no place for hateful comments or racist speech in our community, and the Wheaton Police Department does not support this type of conduct."
