Be Wary Of Coronavirus Scams: DuPage County Cops

Police say to be wary of apps or people going door to door during this time.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is one of many law enforcement organizations warning residents to be mindful of scams during the current new coronavirus crisis. They say many of the scams use fear over coronavirus to manipulate victims, who may be elderly or ill.

In a post on Facebook, the sheriff's office specifically warned against downloading "purported COVID-19 apps." Instead, they recommend using resources and apps from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Johns Hopkins Medicine and other government organizations.

Sheriff's police also warned residents to be on the lookout for people going door to door claiming to be coronavirus inspectors or people taking surveys about coronavirus. They say to call 911 immediately if someone comes to your door and claims to be a coronavirus inspector or survey taker and not to let them into your home.
