Can't-Miss Events in Wheaton This Weekend

Soaring kites, Star Wars characters and original art make for fun events in Wheaton this weekend.

WHEATON, IL — Residents can celebrate spring time by taking part in several fun family friendly events in Wheaton this weekend. The weather promises to be sunny and mild, so it’s a great weekend to fly a kite, tour the Franklin Art Walk and don a Star Wars costume at the Wheaton Library.

Franklin Art Walk, May 5

On Friday, May 5, the Franklin Art Walk spotlights art pieces by students and alumni at Franklin MIddle School. The exhibits will be displayed throughout downtown Wheaton from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the event, vendors will be onsite at select locations and musicians will play live music as visitors admire the original art.

Go Fly a Kite Festival, May 6

Wheaton Park District hosts its annual Go Fly a Kite Festival this Saturday in Graf Park. The free event kicks off at 10 a.m. and there will be concessions available for guests to snack on. The fest’s current record is 843 kites in the air, so it’s a great opportunity to bring your camera and take some pics. The grand kite launch takes place at 11 a.m. The Go Fly a Kite Festival also features a kite demonstration by the Chicago Fire Kite Team and contests for the highest flying and most unique kites. The kite festival will end with a candy drop for kids.

Star Wars Day at Wheaton Public Library, May 6

Storm troopers will roam the halls of Wheaton Public Library on Saturday May 6 for a belated celebration of Star Wars Day (May 4th). Costumes are encouraged and kids can have their pictures taken with professional costumed characters. The first families to arrive will receive a free comic book.
