Carol Stream Man Charged With Kidnapping
Humberto Caldera, 31, of the 400 block of Silverleaf Boulevard, is accused of grabbing a teen girl near Armstrong Park.

CAROL STREAM, IL — A Carol Stream man has been charged with kidnapping after police say he grabbed and tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl near Armstrong Park. Humberto Caldera, 31, of the 400 block of Silverleaf Boulevard, was also charged with aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful restraint in connection with the Aug. 7 incident.
According to DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, the teen was walking with three friends when a Caldera ran up behind her, grabbed her around the waist and tried to abduct her. Police say Caldera released the girl and fled the scene after two of her friends began hitting him.
Caldera was taken into custody on Aug. 26.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement, "The type of disturbing behavior alleged against Mr. Caldera will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be met with the full force and effect of the law. Our children are among society’s most vulnerable and it is imperative that we do all we can to keep them safe. Thankfully, with help from those who were with her, the victim was not physically harmed and was able to free herself."
Caldera is being held in DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond. He is set to appear in court on Sept. 1.
