Christ Our Savior's Blessing of the Animals

A Special Worship Service for "Blessing of the Animals" will be held August 23 in Winfield at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church

Winfield, IL – Children and families, and animal lovers of all ages – including ‘All God’s Creatures Great and Small’ – are invited to a special worship service to praise God and receive special blessings for pets on Sunday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 0S501 Summit Drive, in Winfield.

At this outdoor “Blessing of the Animals” service, church members and others from the community will worship with their children and beloved pets, such as cats and dogs, in celebrating the special relationship they share as part of God’s living creation.

All animals must be on a leash or in a secure cage or carrier. Each animal will receive an individually-named blessing during the service. Even if you don’t seek a blessing for a pet, everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of whether you bring a pet or not.

Special blessings, prayers and a free-will offering for The Lutheran Church Charities’ “Comfort Dogs” Ministry will also be included in the service. This ministry supported by Christ Our Savior features Golden Retrievers that have been specially trained with their handlers to respond to tragic events, such as tornadoes, shootings and the Boston Marathon bombing, as well as provide comfort to those in nursing homes or hospitals.

The event will be held outdoors, so in case of rain, it will be rescheduled to 9:00 a.m. on August 30. For more information, contact the church office at 630-665-5110.
