Citizens Fire Academy Offers Wheaton Residents Glimpse Of Firefighting
Registration is open for the Citizens Fire Academy, at which residents can get a peek into how firefighting works in Wheaton.
WHEATON, IL — Registration has opened for the 2022 Wheaton Citizens Fire Academy, an eight-week course in which residents can learn the ins and outs of how firefighters keep their city safe.
During the free fire academy, participants will be able to try on firefighting gear and learn about the following aspects of firefighting in Wheaton:
- Daily fire station operations
- How to use a breathing apparatus
- Vehicle extrications
Classes will be held On Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Wheaton Fire Station One, 1 Fapp Cir. At the end of the course, students can take part in putting out a fire at the burn tower in Carol Stream.

To be eligible for the Wheaton Citizens Fire Academy, participants must:
- Be a Wheaton resident
- Be at least 18 years old
