Closet Light Likely Caused Wheaton House Fire

Combustible materials stacked close to a closet light fixture is believed to be what caused a blaze at a home Friday night in Wheaton.
Firefighters were called to 1522 E. Geneva Road in Wheaton for a report of a structure fire that started in the second floor closet of the single-family home, according to a city of Wheaton press release.

The blaze was brought under control within minutes. All occupants were able to safely escape the building and the incident did not result in any injuries.
“The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and appears to have been related to combustible materials stacked close to a closet light fixture that was in operation,” according to the news release.

Damage estimates are unavailable at this time.
The building was posted unsafe for occupancy due to the damage.
