Cops Debunk Alleged Threat Against Wheaton School

Police say the alleged threat was found to be invalid.

WHEATON, IL -- Wheaton Police recently investigated a male student, 18, after they learned about alleged threats of a school shooting at Wheaton North High School made on social media. Police say they were able to debunk the rumored threats and determine the student was not an "active threat" after interviewing the student and his parents.

The investigation began Thursday after police were alerted to an alleged threat of a shooting against Wheaton North. The rumored online threat led police to a male student, whom they questioned in regard to the incident.

Police say they searched the boy's home and determined "the individual did not have any weapons and there was no evidence of plans to engage in violence."

School remained in session as usual Friday, but officials acknowledged in a letter to parents that the decision whether or not to attend was ultimately "a family decision."
