Donations needed for Holiday Meal Box Program

Northern Illinois Food Bank and its network of community food pantries are working to bring joy to hungry families this holiday season.

Many holiday memories are made around a festive meal. However, for nearly 600,000 people in northern Illinois who face hunger, a festive meal and tableside memories are not certain.

Northern Illinois Food Bank and its network of community food pantries are working to bring joy to hungry families this holiday season by providing a traditional holiday meal, complete with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, yams, vegetables, fruits and dessert to families in need. Each Holiday Meal Box includes enough food to feed a family of eight. The Food Bank hopes to distribute 34,000 Holiday Meal Boxes between now and the end of the year. The public can help Northern Illinois Food Bank meet this goal making a donation to the Food Bank at www.SolveHungerToday.org.

“The holidays are a special time for families to gather, enjoy a meal and make lasting memories, but for our neighbors who are struggling to feed their families, the season adds additional stress,” said Julie Yurko, president and CEO, Northern Illinois Food Bank. “Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, hungry families in northern Illinois will be able to enjoy time around the table with family and friends.”
