DuPage County Deputy Recognized For His Life-Saving Actions

WHEATON, IL — A DuPage County Sheriff’s deputy was honored by the county board on Wednesday for his actions during a July wellness check on a local resident that likely saved the woman’s life.

Deputy Jason Lloyd received a proclamation of commendation from Board Vice Chairwoman Ashley Selmon and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick during Wednesday’s meeting. Lloyd was recognized for his quick thinking after a neighbor called 911 asking that someone check on the woman.

Upon arriving at the scene, Lloyd recognized that the woman was having a stroke and contacted the Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital mobile stroke unit. Sheriff’s office officials said Wednesday that Lloyd’s actions likely saved the woman’s life and, at the very least, prevented her from sustaining further damage done by the stroke.

“Always a model of humility, Deputy Lloyd proudly accepted the recognition but stated he believes any of his fellow deputies would have done the same thing in a time of need,” DuPage County Sheriff’s Office officials wrote in a social media post.

In response, Lloyd said he was just doing what is called to do as a deputy.

“I truly appreciate being recognized for doing what I think is just an everyday part of my job,” Lloyd wrote in a Facebook post. “The true hero in this is the family friend that checked on her when she didn't show up for a planned lunch. Had he not checked on her this would most likely had been a very tragic event.”
