DuPage County Election Commission Proposition Passes
DuPage County voters supported dissolving its election commission, something Chairman Dan Cronin promises to pursue.

WHEATON, IL — In Tuesday's 2018 general election primaries, voters in DuPage County supported a proposition that would dissolve the county's election commission. 76,887 voters supported consolidating the DuPage County election Commission with the county clerk's office; 59,256 voters were not in favor of the shift, according to election commission results.
In total, 56.48% of voters favored the consolidation, whereas 43.52% were against it.
The timing of the issue couldn't be more ironic. On election night, the DuPage County Election Commission was forced to delay reporting results for several hours due to an unexpected software problem.

County Chairman Dan Cronin (R) has said he will urge lawmakers to move forward with putting an end to the three-person election commission and merging its responsibilities with the county clerk's office, a change that DuPage County would be one one of the last remaining counties to make.
The DuPage County Election Commission, which was established in 1973, consists of three members who are appointed and trained to oversee the county's elections.

Estimates project that dissolving the DuPage County Election Commission and combining it with the DuPage County Clerk's Office could end up saving the county's taxpayers roughly $300,000 a year.
Cronin will likely present a more detailed measure in Springfield in the coming months.
