DuPage County Taken Off Coronavirus 'Warning List:' IDPH

The county had been placed on a warning list for virus transmission as of Sept. 11.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — As of Friday, DuPage County has been taken off the Illinois Department of Public Health's (IDPH) warning list for areas that risk a possible spike in coronavirus cases. The county had been placed on the warning list Sept. 11 after two metrics triggered a warning.

According to IDPH metrics from Aug. 30 through Sept. 5, DuPage County had 89 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents, with a total of six deaths in that timeframe. Those metrics placed the county at warning level as of Sept. 11.

IDPH metrics from Sept. 6 through Sept. 12 indicated DuPage County had 75 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents, with a total of six deaths in that timeframe. Though the number of new coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents indicated a warning level, the number of deaths no longer indicated a warning level. According to IDPH, "This metric indicates a warning when the weekly number of deaths increases more than 20 percent for two consecutive weeks."

A total of 24 Illinois counties remained at a warning level as of Sept. 18, according to IDPH. IDPH added that "[t]hese metrics are intended to be used for local level awareness to help local leaders, businesses, local health departments, and the public make informed decisions about personal and family gatherings, as well as what activities they choose to do."
