DuPage Sheriff To Conduct Sex Offender Checks On Halloween

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office has more than a dozen agencies that will make sure sex offenders comply with rules on Halloween.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL --- With Halloween right around the corner, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office is conducting sex offender compliance checks to help ensure the safety of local children. The sheriff's Sexual Predator Enforcement and Registration (SPEAR) unit has more than a dozen agencies that will conduct checks on roughly 250 registered sex offenders in DuPage County, according to a press release.

Sex offenders in Illinois are prohibited from handing out candy to trick-or-treaters or wearing Halloween costumes out in public. SPEAR will check in with local offenders to make sure they are not violating these rules.

In a statement, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba said, "I hope residents visit our website to search theirsub-divisions to help prepare themselves and their children for a fun and festive Halloween."

Residents are encouraged to contact the DuPage County Sheriff's Office or 911 if they believe they encounter a sex offender who is in violation of the aforementioned rules.
