What: The Chamber celebrates Make a Difference Day in Wheaton with its “Stuff a Truck” event
Where: Illinois Institute of Technology, 201 E. Loop Road, Wheaton, IL
When: October 27, 2012, 12:30 – 4:00 pm
Why: Throughout the month of October, the Chamber hosts a food drive for local non-profit agency, People’s Resource Center (PRC). Last year, PRC distributed 2.4 million pounds of food to almost 8,000 families in need.
Photo/Video Opportunities: Parade of food donations; 3+ large park district trucks filled to the brim with donated food; volunteers at People’s Resource Center unloading food into its food pantry; a ‘fun fair’ with family-friendly booths and giveaways; interviews with Chamber members, PRC employees/volunteers and Wheaton families who have donated food or are attending the fun festival.
As the country celebrates Make a Difference Day on October 27, Wheaton will commemorate the day with its annual “Stuff a Truck” event. The city of Wheaton was named a 2010 National City Award Winner by USA Weekend Magazine, in part because of the success of “Stuff a Truck.” The event is a culmination of a month-long food drive for local non-profit agency, People’s Resource Center.
On the morning of October 27, Chamber volunteers will collect food donations from boxes distributed around the city. At 12:30, the donations will be transported via a parade from the Chamber office to Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 201 E. Loop Road in Wheaton.
While the donations are being loaded into park district trucks at IIT, families can participate in a free fun festival from 1:00 – 4:00pm featuring games, prizes, a climbing wall, concerts and refreshments. People can also bring non-perishable food to the fair, where they can personally “Stuff a Truck” with their donations.
Last year, the community filled four trucks with food for their neighbors in need. This year, “Stuff a Truck” expects even more donations. Want to see our community’s generosity? Join us for a day of fun and service October 27 on Make a Difference Day.
