Ex-DuPage Cop Accused Of Punching Inmate Wants Job Back: Report
The deputy claims he punched the restrained inmate in self-defense.

WHEATON, IL— An ex-DuPage County Sheriff's deputy is trying to get hired again after he was fired last year for being accused of punching an inmate who was restrained, Chicago Tribune reports. The former deputy, Luis Elizarraraz, claims he punched the inmate, who was intoxicated, in self-defense.
The inmate, a 21-year-old Michigan man who was in college in DuPage County, was arrested on July 27, 2019, and charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and aggravated battery.
A video obtained by Chicago Tribune shows a scuffle between the inmate and Elizarraraz, but the angle obscures Elizarraraz punching the man. At one point in the video, the man is heard "moaning" and a supervisor asks Elizarraraz to "step out," Chicago Tribune reports.
