Female Officer Files Discrimination Suit Against Wheaton
The 20-year veteran alleges she was passed up for a promotion and later demoted due to gender bias.

WHEATON, IL -- A female police officer in Wheaton has filed a discrimination suit against the city claiming she was the victim of gender bias. The officer alleges that gender discrimination played a role in delaying a promotion and also led to a subsequent demotion, Chicago Tribune reports.
The plaintiff, Jill Uhlir, has been with the Wheaton Police Department for two decades. She asserts that her gender prevented her from being promoted to sergeant in 2016. She further alleges that she was demoted as patrol officer due to gender bias, according to Chicago Tribune.
Specifically, Uhlir alleges that her supervisors demonstrated a pattern of "discriminatory conduct toward females" and were often "harder on her than they were on a male probationary sergeant," giving her extra tasks, Chicago Tribune reports.
