Wheaton firefighters battled a blaze at a townhome in the 1000 block of Heathrow Court early Monday. The fire was likely caused by a grill.

WHEATON, IL — An early morning fire consumed a townhome in Wheaton, according to a release from the city. Fire crews arrived on the scene in the 1000 block of Heathrow Court at approximately 6 a.m. to battle the blaze.
The fire began in the rear of a townhome at the end of a four-unit building and flames had extended to the unit's attic. With the help of several neighboring fire departments, Wheaton firefighters were able to put out the blaze within 15 minutes and none of the adjacent townhomes sustained damage. According to the Wheaton Fire Department, the townhome sustained "significant damage" and was deemed uninhabitable by the City of Wheaton Building Department. Residents were home when the fire broke out, but everyone escaped unharmed.
Investigators determined that the fire was accidental and had likely been caused by a barbecue grill on the home's back deck.
