Former Bears Quarterback Bob Avellini Headed to Prison
He was convicted of his third DUI and was sentenced to 18 months in a DuPage County courtroom Wednesday.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Bob Avellini pleaded guilty to felony DUI in a DuPage County courtroom Wednesday and will go to prison Dec. 1 on an 18-month sentence. With time for good behavior, he could be out in less than a year.
The 61-year-old Roselle man was stopped by police in September 2013 nine days into a sentence for a previous DUI sentence. His blood alcohol was twice the legal limit, according to prosecutors, he smelled of booze, had “glassy bloodshot eyes” and slurred his speech. He’s been arrested on DUI charges six times since 2002 and convicted three times. Until he reports to prison, Avellini must wear an ankle monitor.
His attorney, David Spada, said former NFL quarterback suffers from depression and concussion syndrome, according to the Chicago Tribune. He played in the NFL for nine years, retiring in 1984. He also said Avellini will seek treatment.
