Free Christmas Tree Recycling Starts In Wheaton

Starting Dec. 31, residents can leave their Christmas trees out for curbside collection.

WHEATON, IL --- Now that the holidays are over, it's time to un-trim the tree, put the decorations back in their storage boxes, and finally get rid of the Christmas tree (if you use a natural one). Wheaton's refuse company will be making the rounds to pick up holiday trees for free starting Dec. 31.

To have your tree picked up, make sure to remove all lights, ornaments, and other fixtures before you leave it out on the curb on the day of your scheduled trash collection. Residents who leave their trees out during the two-week tree collection cycle are not required to use a garbage sticker for the tree.

Once the tree collection period is over after the week of Jan. 7, residents must use a refuse sticker to get their tree picked up.

The pickup weeks for tree collection begin Dec.31 and Jan. 8. Trash collection will be delayed by a day after Jan. 1 because there is no pickup on New Year's Day.
